Birthday Mover by electricjonny Birthday Mover by electricjonny
I quickly wrote this script based on a suggestion from VSConcepts.

It's a pretty simple script. All it does is move (or remove) the birthday notifications from your message centre.

After installing the script, it will just move the notifications down below your folders. But if you want to completely hide the notifications, you can go to Tools -> Greasemonkey -> User Script Commands -> Birthday Mover, and press that. You'll get a confirmation dialog asking if you want to move the notifications, or hide them completely. That setting will be saved so it always does what you picked. Just go back to that option if you want to change something.

To Install

You can install this script if you use Firefox</b> and Greasemonkey, or Chrome and Tampermonkey.

Copy this URL to a new Firefox tab: http://99.82.246.199/code/birthday_mover.user.js

Let me know what you think :)

Won't install.
(I want to hide birthdays completely)
Needs updating but potentially great idea!

Whoops sorry about that, that site went down a while back.  But you can install it from here: 99.82.246.199/code/birthday_mo… Works with Firefox or Chrome, with Greasemonkey or Tampermonkey.

Apologies but after installing it, precisely nothing happened and Birthday Mover did not appear in my Greasemonkey list. I have no options to tackle moving or removing birthdays with in my Messages at the moment. ^-^

Are you using Firefox or Chrome?  Whichever one you're using, I would use the extension Stylish.  Then (for Firefox) add this text to a new blank style:
@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);

@-moz-document url-prefix("http://www.deviantart.com/messages/") {

#birthday-zone {
    display:none!important;
}
}
If you're using Chrome, then write a new style and place this inside it:
#birthday-zone {
    display:none!important;
}
And tell it to only work on the messages URL.

This is just a simpler and faster method of hiding the birthdays than my script.

Thank you very much. I use Firefox, Greasemonkey and now Stylish as well. Birthday (re)Mover works perfectly!
I also use your Messages Anywhere and have favourited both. ^-^
Thanks again! :wave:

Your example for Birthday Mover needs updating to say 'notifications' instead of 'messages' in order to work now. Have tweaked my version. ^-^

extensions, apps, and themes directly through the ExtensionInstallSources policy.
Steps on adding extensions from other websites
We recommend you only add extensions from other websites that you trust. In Chrome, you can follow these steps to add the extension:

Download the extension file from the website and save it to your computer.
Click the wrench icon on the browser toolbar.
Select Tools > Extensions.
Locate the extension file on your computer and drag the file onto the Extensions page.
Review the list of permissions in the dialog that appears. If you would like to proceed, click Install.

Is there a question there? :slow:

I know Chrome went all retard and made it a pain to install scripts/extensions, but it's not too hard to add them if you know what you're doing.

No question. An update on the process. Figured it could be useful to add into your artist comments. ;)

Heh, well I would, but I have so many random scripts in my gallery, and if people can't google to figure it out, then eh :lol:

I've posted about it on my more popular script/scripts, but maybe I should do it for all of them...

Do, or not do my friend. :shrug: It's useful info to have, particularly if someone's new to customizing their UI/Browsing experience.

Haha well yes. I'm a big fan of customizing your browser exactly how you want to do what you want :giggle: I may just stick a short intro and a link to `electricnet's journal on how to install scripts (that he did for SuperdAmn).

Did you notice that they changed http://my.deviantart.com/messages/ to http://www.deviantart.com/messages/ ? :noes:
The script stopped working because of that. :shifty:

Heh, yeah I noticed that. That change also broke my group notifier script, although I just updated that one. I just updated this script too, so you can simply install again and it should update :)

I changed the link as soon as I noticed that it wasn't working anymore. I thought it would be good to let you know about it, even though I assumed that you already know it. :giggle:

I wonder why it was necessary to change it. :lol:

Haha yeah, I noticed when I woke up yesterday. Luckily only two scripts broke and one Stylish, so it was pretty easy to fix.

And yeah, no clue why they changed it. They might be trying to do away with my.deviantart.com for some reason :shrug:

This is cool.

I'm able to use the following (with Stylish). I added extra spaces in the url for displaying here.

@namespace url([link]);
@-moz-document domain("my. deviantart. com") {
}
.birthday-user {
display: none!important
}
DIV:nth-child(23) {
display: none!important
}

So have you switched over to Chrome from Firefox entirely by now?

Ah yup, that works pretty well :nod:

Although I would do the nth-child stuff a bit differently. I didn't test your method, but it could mess other things up, depending on which URL you were at. This should work better:
@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);

@-moz-document domain("my.deviantart.com") {

.birthday-user, .header[style="display: block;"] {
     display:none!important;
}
}

Ah yes, thank you! I was concerned about that too.
I wasn't sure about the proper combination of selectors and was afraid of blocking all headers in the left hand column. :slow:

Awesome to here that you still use Firefox.
I'm a huge advocate.

So you saved the install file somewhere, like your desktop? Just double click the install file to get it installing, then it will ask if you want a shortcut on your desktop. After that, just click the shortcut :)

But I've noticed a trend - anything involving firefox has errors. :/

I keep firefox updated so I don't think it could be an outdating-problem

You can just have a look if you have it somewhere...:)

Click "Extra" in your FF top bar, and click "Add-Ons". Is Greasemonkey in that list, and active?
If so, you should also have a little monkey icon in the bar at the bottom.:)
