@08:08Ah ok, I see. I haven't looked into the VLC capabilities, but I've tried transcoding files with VLC, which seems possible, but I've never had any luck actually getting it to work, let alone streaming files from VLC over the net.

As far as recording the sound from your computer (not mic), I think that's mostly a limitation with Windows 7. You might google for how to get around that, since it must to be possible.

actually, im not saying you should but.
I've tried a torrent of Camtasia and it worked.
Sure, people assume torrents are bad, and most are.
But there are also some that help such as If you require Power point, you get a torrent. Illegal? Hells yea. But what can you do, you just cant shell out $300 either.

@03:54Ah, good point :nod:

There's no real point in stereo, not sure why I used it. But you're right, you would save a lot space by going mono.

This is a tutorial about a program much like Camtasia Studio, but it's free.

It's called CamStudio, and you can get it here.

I hope this teaches you how to quickly and easily make video tutorials.

I may have messed up on some of the settings in this video, but I'm still learning about what all this program can do.

It's free, so check it out, and make some awesome tutorials :D

If you've made some tutorials, give this FAQ a read and become a submitting member of the film community :)

@08:08Do you know if it is possible to record only the audio that streams through the soundcard, and if so, can you save it in FLAC and Mp3 formats?
Either way, thank you for the great upload.

@08:08Trying to record some youtube videos? :evileye:

It's sort of able to, in Camstudio, but I don't think it works in Windows Vista or Windows 7. At least I tried, and got an error there. I remember being able to record from your computer speakers being disabled in those OS's because of piracy issues, or something.

If you just want to nab stuff off of youtube, you might try this out [link] Or you could try checking "Record audio from speakers" in the options menu of Camstudio, if you use Windows XP.

@08:08Thanks for the further info... Actually, I was just trying to understand the capabilities of the program... knowledge is power after all. I was more or less comparing it to VLC and the input options there, as you can record those separately to multiple formats. I have not gotten all the kinks worked out, and for the most part, stream the majority of my content over livestream's free service, but the quality isn't the greatest (without paying that is) and I like to know what alternatives I have for my uploaded content(as opposed to lower quality stream).
Thanks again, best wishes and I'll see you around

I just saw their site and there seems to be a malware related note there. I am scared whether I should download or not.

Hmm, well it was a sourceforge URL with an s at the end, but this one seems correct http://sourceforge.net/projects/camstudio/files/legacy/

Also, I found out my mom's mac has a screen capture application. Though it hardly helps considering it doesn't have photoshop and my desktop has it only.

I think Quicktime X or whatever the new one is can capture screen recordings, but I'm not a Mac person, so I don't know anything about it.
