Quick Journal Edit by electricjonny Quick Journal Edit by electricjonny

This doesn't work anymore

Since journals have changed, this doesn't work. It might work, for a short time, if you aren't a beta tester, but if you're a beta tester, then this won't work anymore.

Edit
This now works in Chrome, so you can use it for Chrome or Firefox if you want :)

I was thinking of new ideas for a script I could write, and to do that, I thought of things I do that could be made easier. I always add a link to edit my journal in a (semi) hidden link on each journal, but it's annoying to do that since I have to make the journal and then go and edit it right away to add in the URL for the edit.

So I thought I would make it easier. With this script, you can easily edit a journal of yours without going through the hassle of getting to the page to edit the journal.

You won't notice anything at first, but when you hover over the top right corner of any journal you've made, you'll see an edit button fade in. There's no a href link on the edit button (it would be hard to add a link in due to how I'm finding the edit link), but if you click that button, you'll be taken to the edit page so you can edit the journal.

This will work on your userpage, any specific journal page, and even on your main journal page in case you want to edit any journal there.

This is a fairly simple script, but I think it will be useful to some of you :)

To Install

This works for Chrome, or Firefox (with Greasemonkey).

Then you can copy this into a new tab or click to install it:

I hope you find this useful, and let me know if you find any bugs. It should work on Firefox 3.5 and above :)

It does for now, but it won't once the journal changes take effect. Anyway, enjoy it while it lasts :)

Tried installing on chrome - said the script was invalid.

Yeah, this script isn't supported anymore, since journals have changed so much (beta testing). So, sorry about that :hmm:

It doesn't work with me.
I have chrome, and it installed without any problem, but that button refuses to appear.
Do I have to do something more? :<

Because of how some journal beta stuff is happening right now, this just might not work, and I don't want to try and fix it since they're changing how the code works and it might work after I fix it, but then it might just break again.

So sorry, but because of the beta testing with journals, this might not be able to work again, sorry :hmm:

Alright, this should work in Chrome now. You wont' see anything, but hover over the top right corner of your journal, and you'll see a pencil icon slide in.

Oh, it does? The comments said only for Firefox, and your other deviations say Firefox or Chrome for some. ^^;

Well I've been making my latest deviations work in both, but I didn't used to. I can probably make it work, but I'll have to edit things. Give me a bit to look into it all :)

Definitely downloading this because I always have spur of the moment additions to my journals that by the time I take the time to navigate to the edit page, I forget what I was going to write!!!

I don't know why, but it's not working for me, using firefox 3.6 with greasemonkey, but the button just doesn't appear... Perhaps the update to v7 broke it?

Perhaps it will only appear after I created a journal? Because that's the only thing left I can think off and haven't tried yet...

Well, all you need to do is hover over the top right corner of the journal. Nothing happens when you do that?

Yeah, it's nice to be able to quickly edit journals. I used to put a hidden link to the edit journal page on all my journals, but this is much easier.

Perhaps, but I've never used the Chrome Greasemonkey. So I don't know if I'll have time to look into making a Chrome version.
