hah, there is a cube exactly like this in the east village in new york city, spinning action and all
great choice for a holga shot, very well executed.
and I love the way you said you scan your negatives. let me tell you, i've worked with those fancy multi-thousand dollar Nikon 9000 ED's and they're a huge pain in the ass, especially with holga negatives
haha! I was looking through your gallery and was like, "ohmygosh it's the cube!" it's such a landmark in ann arbor. sweet! and i love my holga. it's so unpredictable and awesome! and i love your work with the Holga, you really get a lot of awesome stuff with it. i need to take mine out more, i've been rockin the local shows a lot lately...and holgas aren't the best for that lol. you need a neg scanner tho. that sounds way too involved
i tried to get landmark type shots that day. i love my holga. they do make some interesting images. sometimes it's nice to not worry about apature and shutter speeds. just snap off the shot.
and for scanning, i just put the neg on my flatbed scanner with a peice of glass on top and shine a light over it while i scan the neg. it works pretty good most of the time, but sometimes it takes a while to get the light right to get the right contrast range.
i can imagine....of course i'm sort of spoiled with all the awesome equipment at WCC, but....yeah. i don't even own a flatbed scanner lol. but i use the stuff at school all the time. it's so awesome!
This really works-- the solid and hard-lined cube contrasts so well with the Holga's distortion and vignetting on the corners. Excellent composition! I really like your Holga stuff. What negative scanner do you use? Great work!
it's not exactly a negitive scanner. i have a Canon Lide 30 scanner, with no negitive attatchment or anything. i don't even know where to get a 120 format film scanner. so i put the negitive on the scanner with a peice of glass on top. then i put a few sheets of smooth photo printer paper on top of the glass. then i take a flourescent light and put that about two feet above that with the top of the scanner open. then i scan it in, invert it, flip it and tweak the curves to get it looking normal again. it takes a few tries to get the brightness looking right, adding more paper or taking paper away.
i could take the negs to a lab and have prints made, but with my way i can get the whole frame in with all the numbers and printing along the edge of the negitive.
